The hosts of Fitzroy House

Your hosts, Mal and Tony Bouzaid have a lifetime's experience of exploring the Barrier from both land and sea.

From Tony's early childhood, he and his family have been holidaying and exploring the Barrier, aboard the family's yacht, 'Rainbow'. With his late father, Leo, and brother Chris, many hours have been spent exploring the hidden coves, streams and walking the beautiful, native-bush tracks. Tony has continued this tradition, with his own children, passing on his love and knowledge of one of the world's most natural and unspoilt havens.

The Bouzaids' competitive, yachting achievements are world-renowned. Amongst Tony's experiences and accolades are two World 1/2-Ton Cup wins and a New Zealand Yachtsman-of-the-Year, and other local and NZ yachting titles.

Tony is the ideal person to assist in planning your exploration of the Barrier, - and he enjoys sharing his knowledge with guests.

Mal Bouzaid is an artist who has received considerable recognition for her work. Her gallery was originally a shearing and milking shed, which has been converted into an art-studio and gallery - with varnished floors, white- painted walls and even a wooden stove to keep it warm and cheery in winter. Belying its adopted application, the outside mural depicts an even older shed, which once stood in Wairahi Bay. Mal likes to be uninterrupted when working on paintings in her gallery so her creative flow is not disturbed. However, she is happy to show her work if an appointment is made beforehand.
