Bird Sanctuary Cruise is a full day trip to Hauturu (Little Barrier Island). This requires some preplanning as a permit has to be obtained from the Department of Conservation Auckland in advance and you need to be staying in the Cottage for several days to be reasonably sure of obtaining the right weather conditions as landing can be difficult. Little Barrier Island is one of the foremost bird sanctuaries in the world having been established in 1894 when few people gave any consideration to the survival of indigenous species. Here you can see and hear species that are extinct in NZ except for a few offshore islands. Kokako, stitchbird, saddleback, bellbird, kaka to name but a few. The flora exhibits one of the few examples of original unmodified native forest left in NZ. An early start can provide four hours tramping on the island. Price as per Coastal Explorer.

All sailing is subject to operational requirements and weather conditions The Skipper is trained to give the greatest emphasis to your safety and comfort.
